Teeth that cannot be repaired by filling etc. processes are cut and reduced and measured. The crowns produced by applying porcelain on the infrastructure in the laboratory environment are adhered to the tooth cut with special adhesives and the teeth are covered. Porcelain veneers are divided into metal-supported, zirconium and full ceramic crowns according to the materials used.
In the first session, the tooth is cut and reduced with special burs. Then the size of the tooth is taken. In the same session, a temporary acrylic crown is made on the tooth. In the second session, the fit and height of the metal infrastructure to the tooth is checked. In the third session, the crown, which is completed by applying porcelain, is attached to the tooth. If there is no incompatibility, the treatment is finished by pasting.
The biggest disadvantage of these crowns is the slight reflection of the gray metal color from the porcelain to the external environment. Therefore, they can cause aesthetical problems, especially in the anterior region. In addition, due to the low flexibility of the metal, the porcelain on it may crack and break.
In zirconium crowns, zirconium infrastructure is used instead of the gray metal infrastructure in metal-supported crowns. The processing steps are the same as for metal-backed crowns. Since zirconium has a color close to white, gray color does not reflect under the porcelain and a more aesthetic appearance is gained, especially in the front teeth. In addition, due to the flexibility of zirconium, the stability of the porcelain on it is better. The disadvantage of these crowns is that they are higher in cost.
Especially when covering the front teeth with high aesthetic concerns, veneers can be prepared with strong porcelains by not using infrastructure. Thanks to the transparency of the porcelain, much more successful results are obtained in the anterior teeth in terms of appearance. Since the infrastructure is not used in these crowns, the process steps are shortened and if the harmony is achieved, the treatment can be completed in two sessions.
